View from a Rhino House: it’s a long way down
The police have caught the second of 2 bank robbers who escaped last before Christmas from a high-rise jail in downtown Chicago by lowering themselves 20 stories to the street using rope made of bed sheets & dental floss, the FBI said yesterday.
Kenneth Conley was arrested by police in the Chicago suburb of Palos Hills, & the FBI has confirmed his identity.
Conley & his cellmate, Joseph Banks, escaped from the Metropolitan Correctional Center by apparently breaking a window in the cell they shared, then squeezing through the opening & lowering themselves 20 floors to street-level (I’ll repeat that …. 20 floors – eat that, so called “Birdman of Alcatraz”, meet the “Monkeys of the Metropolitan Correctional Center” & weep ).
They then hailed a cab to complete their getaway.
Banks was captured two days later.
The two convicts, who had been awaiting sentencing in the facility, made their rope from bed sheets & dental floss, according to local reports (one of them must have a real orthadental problem).
Escape carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison & a $250,000 fine.
On the plus side, these guys are never going to lack for opportunities to advertise linen or dental hygiene products.
