In the early days the Colonel tried to do everything himself, from raising the chickens to cooking in the first KFC outlet. It was only after his first disastrous and expensive venture into the fields of marketing and advertising resulted in a serious drop in sales (and the torching of that first store by the KKK and religious fundamentalists) that he was forced to hand over control to a more professional management team.

Jao & Lin were confident that after winning the KFC contract they could deliver to all of the stores within the agreed time-frames; their only concern was that none of the stores had a smart-ass who knew the difference between chickens & pigeons….
