In Rome an apartment block that houses a Vatican department is also the home of a well-known gay sauna.
Four years ago the Holy See paid €20m for 18 apartments in the building for the use of the “Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples”. The Congregation’s Prefect Emeritus, Cardinal Ivan Dias, is one of the residents.
The building also houses the Europa Multiclub, proudly (& very brightly) billed as Italy’s top gay sauna, featuring a Turkish bath, Finnish sauna, whirlpools & massages.
Also on offer are “bear parties”, which are advertised on its website with a video of a man stripping before donning clerical attire. Fr. Bruno, “a hairy, overweight pastor of souls, remains in a thong, because he wants to expose body & soul”, the website says.
The Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples (which is responsible for missionary activities) has not made any comment about its neighbors but, when asked for a statement, referred to Cardinal Dias’ earlier assertion that “gays & lesbians can be cured of their unnatural tendencies through the sacrament of penance.”
The 76-year-old cardinal is currently taking part in the conclave to elect a successor to Pope Benedict XVI.
If Fr. Bruno’s name comes out of the hat, there will be some difficult questions for the members of the conclave & for Cardinal Dias in particular.
